The Denver Broncos will reportedly sign defensive tackle Kyle Peko and place rookie WR Juwann Winfree on injured reserve ahead of their game vs. KC.

The Denver Broncos are hurting pretty bad on the defensive front seven.

The list of injuries for their defensive line and edge position, specifically, has exceeded what pretty much any team in the NFL could bear.

As a result of their wide variety of injuries, which we’ll talk about in a minute, the Broncos have reportedly signed free agent defensive tackle Kyle Peko, who was originally signed by Denver as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State in 2017.

Peko has spent the past two years mostly with the Buffalo Bills, but had a short stint this year with the Indianapolis Colts as well. His signing was initially reported by Mike Klis.

In order to make room for Peko on the roster, the Broncos will reportedly place rookie wide receiver Juwann Winfree on IR.

Alright, so let’s recap some of the Broncos’ injury issues on the defensive front this year. They have been extensive.

OLB Bradley Chubb, knee (season-ending IR)

OLB Von Miller, knee (missed week 13 vs. LAC)

OLB Malik Reed, ankle/shoulder

OLB Justin Hollins, hamstring (missed week 12 vs. BUF)

DE Derek Wolfe, elbow (season-ending IR)

DE Adam Gotsis, knee (out vs. KC)

DL DeMarcus Walker, ankle (out vs. KC)

DL Dre’Mont Jones, ankle (questionable vs. KC)

The Broncos are not unique in that their team is struggling through injuries, but the number of players injured on the defensive front seven this year has been a little outrageous.

It’s to the point that, against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 15, the Broncos are going to be relying on a combination of players on the defensive line who were competing late in preseason games a few months ago.

Shelby Harris will be the elder statesman of the defensive line against the Chiefs along with fellow starter Mike Purcell and hopefully rookie Dre’Mont Jones able to go.

The Broncos will undoubtedly have rookie Jonathan Harris, acquired off of waivers earlier this season from the Bears, active for this game. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Peko activated, either.

Next. Broncos have work to do at QB in 2020. dark

It’s tough timing for the Broncos, whose task this week is to get after last year’s NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.
