Denver Broncos: Kareem Jackson named Defensive Player of the Week
Following Sunday’s victory over the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson was named defensive player of the week for week 14.
Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson’s return to Houston was a rewarding one.
He recorded 11 tackles (6 solo, 5 assisted), defended three passes, as well as returning a play for a touchdown.
Defensive lineman Jeremiah Attaochu recovered a fumble and before he was brought to the ground, he handed the ball off to Jackson, who returned it for a score.
Jackson also laid a huge hit on Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins that prevented a third-and-14 conversion late in the first quarter. It was one of those hits where you could feel it as you are watching the game in your own home—or anywhere you watched the game!
Jackson was signed by the Denver Broncos during the 2019 offseason. He signed a three-year contract worth $33 million. The contract includes a potential out, meaning the Broncos can move on from Jackson if it didn’t work out. Clearly it has, though.
The signing of Kareem Jackson has proven to be a good one. For the season, Jackson has 69 tackles and two interceptions.
For his career, he has 627 tackles, two sacks, 18 interceptions, and three touchdowns. His best season in terms of tackles came in 2018 when he had 87.
In 2012, his third NFL season, he snatched four passes for interceptions.
I am extremely excited to see what more he can add to the Broncos under defensive-minded head coach Vic Fangio. Jackson has played safety for the Denver Broncos but has the capabilities of playing the cornerback position.

Get ready, Broncos Country. I have a feeling that Jackson will continue to be a cornerstone of the defense. At 31-years old, he should absolutely be in line for a second contract with the team after his current deal runs out. That is if he wants to continue playing and if he doesn’t decline.
