The Denver Broncos have a ton of assets to build around Drew Lock in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here’s a mock draft where the team does exactly that.

The Denver Broncos are 5-8 as we approach the final three games of the 2019 season, but optimism for the future is extremely high for many as the first two games of the Drew Lock era have been, well, awesome.

Not everyone is on the same page with this quite yet, but even before he was playing, I was operating as though the Broncos would be building around Lock for the future and I think he’s shown enough at this point that the Broncos should give him an offseason and give him 2020 at the very least to prove he can be the guy.

Lock’s development is obviously critical for this Broncos team, but the signs are all there of a young quarterback any team would be thrilled to build around.

The Broncos have been so starved for strong quarterback play that Lock’s play is bordering on the miraculous, but even as Lock goes through typical young quarterback struggles, this is an opportunity for the Broncos to cut ties with the nonsense involving veteran quarterbacks who are no longer capable of helping teams compete.

Lock has provided the Broncos a spark and not only has he played well as the starting quarterback coming off of injured reserve and very little practice time, he’s helped lead the team to two victories in two tries.

The Broncos have a tremendous opportunity to build around Lock this offseason and put together a contending roster. These assets are enviable:

  • Budding star WR1 (Sutton)
  • Playmaking TE (Fant)
  • Pro Bowl RB (Lindsay)
  • Excellent defense
  • Projected $85M in cap space with some expected cuts (Flacco, Leary)
  • 5 top 100 draft picks, 7 in first four rounds

The Broncos are loaded going into the 2020 offseason and they have a chance to really turn things around rather quickly.

John Elway and the front office have put together two very good rookie classes in a row and if 2020 is more of the same, this team will be competing quicker than anyone anticipates.

How can the Broncos build around their young QB? Let’s go through a mock draft scenario, four rounds, using The Draft Network’s latest cumulative rankings.
