C/G Connor McGovern: Stay or Go?

The Broncos need some continuity on the offensive line going forward.

Connor McGovern was a fifth-round draft pick in 2016 and has proven to be a very solid selection as both a right guard and center.

While McGovern has become the full-time starting center, I think the Broncos could try to re-sign him as either a center or right guard going forward, and perhaps he would be even more likely to come back as a right guard next year depending on the Broncos’ plans in free agency and with newly acquired Patrick Morris.

Either way, bringing back McGovern for 2020 and beyond gives the Broncos a starter at one of the five positions on the offensive line, and he’s undoubtedly earned it.

McGovern is one of the strongest players on the team and the quarterback-center battery is such an important duo to have in-tact.

The going rate for the best centers on the open market is upwards of $11 million, but I have a hard time seeing McGovern reach that kind of status. I think the Broncos would be wise to give him a deal worth closer to $7.5 million per season and lock him in for the future.

Verdict: Stay
