With Champ Bailey and Pat Bowlen enshrined in Canton this past August, could Steve Atwater be the next Bronco in? He took one step closer on Tuesday.

The Denver Broncos have seen three members of the franchise enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the past three seasons. Terrell Davis went into the Hall of Fame in 2017 while we saw Champ Bailey and Pat Bowlen get inducted this past summer. Could Steve Atwater be next?

The hard hitting safety of the Denver Broncos got past the next step in his hope that he will one day be enshrined in Canton. He was named one of the Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist for the 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

Along with 24 other modern players, Steve Atwater will find out if he makes the finalist list in January. Hopefully he has a really good chance of making that finalist list. He has been named one twice since his retirement.

Last year he and John Lynch, who is also a semifinalist, made it as finalists last season. Will this be two years in a row that he makes it that far? Here is hoping.

It truly is a shame that Steve Atwater is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame yet. He was such a force on the defensive side of the football in the 1990s. We all remember his hit heard around the world when he completely flattened Christian Okoye of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Okoye seemed to be a player that could not be brought down. However, Steve Atwater was able to lay the boom down on that day.

We will not know until January if he takes the next step towards seeing himself in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But here is hoping that this time we see the Smilin’ Assassin’s dreams come true.
