The Denver Broncos are giving fourth-year cornerback Cyrus Jones his latest shot in the NFL after stints with the Patriots and Ravens didn’t work out.

The Denver Broncos are always looking for ways to improve and re-shuffle their roster, and their latest move is adding cornerback/return specialist Cyrus Jones, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

Despite the fact that the Patriots and Ravens have had pretty strong secondaries in recent years, Jones — a former second-round pick out of Alabama — has yet to crack the rotation as a starter or even really as a regular.

He’s capable of making electric plays in the return game, but he’s also got seven career fumbles including five in his rookie season with the Patriots.

The Broncos waived Coty Sensabaugh to make room for Jones on their roster, a move that was initially reported by Field Yates.

Jones, who is 5-foot-10, 197 pounds, is a former wide receiver who is still very clearly finding his way defensively.

The Broncos have the coaching staff in place to extract his talent with Ed Donatell — one of the best in the league at developing defensive backs — and obviously head coach Vic Fangio, a linebackers expert whose defense typically caters to defensive backs.

Interestingly enough, the Broncos didn’t place Bryce Callahan on injured reserve to make the required room for Jones. Perhaps the team is still holding out hope he can play this year after he practiced Tuesday, then was held out on Wednesday.

Jones had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown last year with the Ravens, but unless something happens to Diontae Spencer, it’s hard to imagine he’s going to get a ton of chances back there. This move is for special teams depth and for the Broncos to take yet another shot on another former Patriots second-round pick.

Tom Brady has masked some pretty bad draft whiffs for the Pats in recent years.

The Broncos, you’ll recall, also traded for Patriots 2018 second-round pick Duke Dawson, who has done a fine job since taking over as the team’s primary nickel cornerback.

Hopefully, the Broncos will get the best out of Jones and he can use his physical style of play to his advantage as an extra defensive back in certain packages.
