Surprise 5: Davontae Harris emerging at corner

After De’Vante Bausby’s injury against the Chargers, the Broncos went back to the well with Isaac Yiadom, who once again struggled badly, not only with giving up big plays but also penalties.

Yiadom was once again sent to the bench in favor of Davontae Harris, a player the Broncos had picked up off the scrap heap from the Cincinnati Bengals.

A former FCS All-American and 2018 fifth-round draft pick, Harris has been an awesome find for the Broncos through his first four-and-a-half games with the Denver defense.

Most recently, Harris made the game-sealing pass breakup against Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns and earlier in the game, prevented a touchdown in the end zone with another nice pass breakup.

Harris has 19 total tackles with the Broncos this season, a couple of pass breakups, and hopefully a really bright future.

The emergence of players like Harris and Bausby has to have the Broncos re-thinking whether or not cornerback has to be a huge priority in the 2020 NFL Draft, or if these players plus Chris Harris Jr. — who should be re-signed to a big contract — can be the present and future for the team at the position.
