4. CB Bryce Callahan resolution?

One way or another, we should get a resolution on free agent cornerback Bryce Callahan, who has missed nine games — to this point — with a foot injury.

Callahan went on IR last year with the Bears because of a broken foot and then had that foot stepped on when the Broncos had their practice at the stadium this summer. He actually returned to practice a couple of times after having the foot stepped on by a teammate, but it just wasn’t feeling right.

The Broncos have been trying to keep optimistic that Callahan will play in 2019, but right now, it feels like there’s a better chance he goes on IR than anything else.

Callahan going on IR would be a massive bummer, but it would also at least give us a resolution to something that has been coming up as a question repeatedly over the past couple of months.

With the Broncos bringing a couple of guys up off of injured reserve, it’s possible Callahan takes one of their places.

I’m not saying we’re ‘looking forward’ to his going on IR. The best-case scenario here is that Callahan can actually play this season, if even for a short period of time. But if his foot needs surgery, it needs surgery. Get him back to 100 percent sooner than later.

That’s one reason why there may be optimism for Callahan playing this year — the Broncos have not sent him to get surgery on his foot yet. You would think if there was no chance of him playing this year, they would have him just get the procedure done and get healthy for next season.

One way or another, a resolution here is coming after the bye.
