1. Justin Simmons contract extension

Some of you on Twitter brought this one up and I hadn’t thought of it in preparation for this post, so kudos to those of you who mentioned it.

As we approach December, we know the Broncos have a precedent of doing some contract extensions late in the season. We also can assume that Justin Simmons is arguably the team’s top priority this offseason.

Simmons has been doing incredible work in Vic Fangio’s defense and he’s been steadily moving towards a contract extension with the Broncos anyway. The Broncos would be wise to keep Simmons off the open market and pay him his money ASAP so they can make sure one key piece of this defensive core is secured for the future.

The Broncos don’t have their first-rounder from the 2016 NFL Draft anymore (Paxton Lynch). It also feels unlikely they will keep second-round pick Adam Gotsis, who has been passed on the depth chart by DeMarcus Walker and Dre’Mont Jones.

Simmons was a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Broncos, but he’s played a lot more like a first-round pick, and the Broncos have to do what it takes to re-sign him. Pay market value, get Simmons back in the fold.
