Denver Broncos Offense MVP’s

Graham Tiedtke

Courtland Sutton, WR

Courtland Sutton has quickly established himself as the Denver Broncos number one receiver.

With the departure of Emmanuel Sanders, somebody had to step up. We all knew who that receiver was going to be. Even with the poor quarterback play and new offensive system, Sutton has shined.

We talk about Sutton being Joe Flacco’s go-to receiver, but how about after Brandon Allen took over? There were questions as to how things would change across the offense.

Sutton was a constant. His impact on the offense was still there even with a quarterback in his first career game. He caught a beautiful touchdown in the Broncos win against the Cleveland Browns.

Sutton will hopefully be the Broncos’ No. 1 receiver for many more years down the road. He has already earned it.

I am very excited to see what Sutton is able to do in multiple games with Brandon Allen throwing him the ball. It will also be interesting and fun to see if he can develop good chemistry with rookie quarterback Drew Lock, whenever Lock is put into game action.

Shelby Manning

Courtland Sutton, WR

Courtland Sutton, currently tied for 2nd in receiving yards in the AFC through nine weeks, looked to be building momentum in his rookie campaign to be a #1 WR.

This season, he is there.

Sutton has been one of the few steadies in this rocky Rich Scangarello offense. Although Sutton only had four touchdowns on the year, he is sitting at 692 receiving yards through Week 9, just 12 yards shy of his 2018 total of 704. He is averaging 15.7 YAC, and has 44 targets on the year, already two more than his 42 targets in 2018.

With the departure of Emmanuel Sanders to San Francisco, Sutton has stepped into the top receiver role, and it seems that the Broncos have really gotten something special in him.

If a Brandon Allen-led offense is able to prove successful, Sutton will be given opportunities for even more targets and hopefully more touchdowns.

Not only does Sutton have great hands, but he is a physical and powerful wide receiver, and can create opportunities even if the pass thrown his way is not perfect; Brandon Allen’s worst pass of the day against Cleveland would turn into Sutton’s best reception of the season.

Sutton may be playing his way to a potential first Pro Bowl appearance this year.

Courtland Sutton, WR

My pick for Broncos’ mid season offensive MVP has to go to Courtland Sutton. At one game past the half way mark in the season, Sutton has just about matched his production from his entire rookie season.

With 4 touchdown grabs, as well as 44 receptions for 692 yards, he is averaging just over 17 yards a catch. Absolutely phenomenal. He’s a deep threat and an excellent route runner with a massive reach.

Outside of stats, he has really stepped up into a leadership role with the team on the field. Taking the Number 1 receiver slot, previously occupied by Emmanuel Sanders (traded to the 49ers earlier this season), Courtland continues to get better and better.

He has made some seriously jaw dropping plays this year including a 70 yard reception (the longest of his career) and his Randy Moss-esque touchdown grab against Cleveland in week 9.

His play does not falter in high pressure situations either. According to Pro Football Reference, his drop percentage is merely three percent. His 6-foot-4 inch, 216 lb frame allows him to make tough catches in traffic, over the top of defensive backs, and get those top taps on tight sideline throws. He’s a walking mismatch, and is really starting to show everyone he means business in this league.

Broncos fans should be endlessly excited about this sophomore stud, and what he is bringing to the team we all love. So congrats Courtland, you get my vote for Broncos’ mid-season MVP.
