Reason 2: The best-case scenario

Let’s just say for a moment that Cam Newton is able to stay healthy for a few years after he heals up from this foot injury he’s dealing with in 2019.

What is the best-case scenario?

Well, the best-case scenario is that you would get the best version of Cam Newton, and in that case, that might be a $20 million risk worth taking.

Newton is hovering just under 60 percent for his NFL career as a passer, but he’s been good for an average — average — of 30 total touchdowns (23 passing, seven rushing) per 16 games since 2011.

That’s incredible. So imagine then if Newton is able to be the best version of himself, or even above average.

This is a guy who can not only light up the stat sheet and scoreboard, he can flat out play at an MVP level and completely take over games. I think we were all pretty afraid of it in the two weeks leading up to Super Bowl 50.

I don’t want to just shove Drew Lock to the side like this, but thinking about a healthy version of Cam Newton with Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman in the backfield, Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant, and whoever else the Broncos bring in at receiver this offseason is pretty fun.

This guy is the former MVP. You don’t get many chances to bring players like that in when they are 30 years of age in today’s NFL. This would be a tough sweepstakes to stay out of considering how good the best-case scenario is.
