third Auburn Tiger?

That’s right.

We’ll get to Driscoll in a second, but let’s think about the Broncos’ top needs right now.

  • They need to figure out a solution at left tackle. Perhaps Prince Tega Wanogho can be that (in this mock scenario)
  • They need to add depth to the offensive line
  • They need a center and/or right guard if Connor McGovern and/or Ron Leary aren’t back next offseason

The Broncos have to be able to sustain an injury on the offensive line and not go completely off the rails as a unit offensively.

That’s why I think there’s nothing wrong with using a premium pick like this on a guy who probably won’t start as a rookie unless Ja’Wuan James would struggle with injuries.

Driscoll is a second-year starter for Auburn but he was a full-time starter at UMass before transferring over in 2018. He was excellent as the Tigers’ starting right tackle in 2018 and he’s been more of the same in 2019.

Driscoll has some big-time movement skills for a tackle and as he improves his play strength, I think he’s a long-term option, potentially at guard as well. He played some guard early in his UMass career.

This could be your swing guy at tackle/guard if Elijah Wilkinson sticks around as the right guard in 2020.
