Third round (first pick)

836. Pick Analysis. CB. UCLA. 1. Scouting Report. DarnayHolmes. player

Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 198 pounds
Class: Junior

I’ll be fascinated to see what the Broncos do in this class at the cornerback position.

If Chris Harris Jr. is re-signed — which now has to be the plan A — the Broncos will have a cornerback group including:

  • Chris Harris Jr.
  • Bryce Callahan
  • Duke Dawson Jr.
  • Davontae Harris
  • De’Vante Bausby
  • Isaac Yiadom

I actually really like that group if Callahan is healthy and ready to play, but at this point, we just don’t know what to expect from him.

I do think the Broncos have a gem in Bausby and the more we see from Davontae Harris, the more impressed I am. Duke Dawson looks like he could keep Harris on the outside as the full-time nickel.

If the Broncos are pleased with this group, there’s no guarantee they would use a top 100 pick on cornerback, but can you really have enough guys who can take the ball away? We’re seeing the importance of depth at cornerback this year, and we saw it when the Broncos built the No Fly Zone in the first place.

Although Darnay Holmes gets himself into trouble occasionally with over-aggressive play, his ball skills and willingness to support the run will be traits Vic Fangio absolutely loves.

Holmes is also a tremendous return specialist, and although the Broncos now have one of the best in the league in that regard in Diontae Spencer, Holmes would be a nice backup option.

If the Broncos aren’t able to re-sign Will Parks, perhaps Holmes could fill that role going forward.
