Rich Scangarello, Offensive Coordinator

The above photo may not be that of Broncos’ offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, but is that of future HOF Adam Vinatieri (who has greatly struggled this season) kicking the game-winning field goal to put the Denver Broncos back into their “world of suck” at 2-6. And it is essentially on Scangarello that the Colts had the opportunity at all.

Scangarello has frustrated Broncos Country with overly conservative play-calling all season and poor play designed that do not suit the offensive weapons that the Broncos have. Mainly, play design that does not stretch to meet Joe Flacco’s limited mobility.

Flacco and receivers are frequently on different pages, and in 3rd-and-long situations, often check-downs for small gain are Scangarello’s choice. Scangarello especially put a target on his back after running a run play on a 3rd-and-5 situation that if the Broncos could convert, the game would have been put away.

This Broncos offense has been bad, but it at least should have been able to get one needed first down to close out a victory, and that could not even be accomplished.

Next. What's the plan with Drew Lock now?. dark

The Broncos’ offense has easily been the worst on third down, not even converting five a game. Scangarello’s play-calling is simply not good enough, maybe even simply bad. If this progresses, the Broncos’ front office would be wise to consider finding a new coordinator.
