Juwann Winfree

The upside is incredible with Juwann Winfree. Here is a player that dealt with numerous injuries at the University of Colorado, and could not stay on the field. Winfree displays tremendous size, speed, and impeccable route running ability that makes him a sleeper candidate to help replace Emmanuel Sanders for the long term. There is one area Sanders and Winfree are almost identical.

Winfree has a unique way of contorting his body to make the ball fit in tight windows. Sanders would be great at this on the sidelines or in the red zone. Both players have the skill set to find the ball. We saw this firsthand against the Atlanta Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game with Winfree. In a critical point of the game, Winfree made an adjustment to make a clutch, game-winning catch. Plays like this can keep you on a roster.

While Winfree has been inactive in recent weeks, the Broncos will see what they have in him for the rest of the season. There’s clear talent with Winfree. It was no disrespect to the other wide receivers in the preseason. There are players that look different than the others to where they don’t belong in the same class. Winfree seemed like he belonged in the NFL. It begs the question if Denver was being cautious with Winfree because of the injuries he was previously dealing with in college.

This will be an underrated story for the rest of the way. If Hamilton, Patrick, and Winfree show out the rest of the season, then there’s a possibility wide receiver may not be as great of a need heading into free agency or the draft.
