Thunder & Lightning

By: Shelby Manning

Known as “Thunder & Lightning”, Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders were arguably the best receiving tandem in the NFL at one point. When Sanders came to Denver, he felt he was in “receiver Heaven” with Peyton Manning at the helm, and Demaryius Thomas was a big part of that Heaven.

Thomas and Sanders formed a special bond, with Thomas serving as an uncle-like figure to Sanders’ son and daughter. With 5.5 seasons together (Thomas was traded in October 2018 to the Houston Texans), they became the longest tenured receiving duo in the NFL at the time. The duo complimented each other perfectly; Demaryius Thomas displayed great physicality, while Sanders contributed unmatched speed and separation skill.

The pair accounted for over 10,000 combined receiving yards, and watching them work with Peyton Manning was an unforgettable experience. Thomas and Sanders may go down as one of the best receiving tandems in team history.
