Emmanuel Sanders, WR (By Graham Tiedtke)

Emmanuel Sanders has had an awesome career with the Denver Broncos, but unfortunately, his time with the team is likely nearing an end. Sanders has been the subject of many trade rumors as part of a Denver Broncos rebuild.

Why, exactly? Well, Sanders is in his last season under contract and at 32-years old, he does not have a lot of time left in the league to try and win another Super Bowl. Sanders is also the oldest receiver on the team. The next oldest receiver is Diontae Spencer (27).

As the team will try and rebuild and find their true identity, it is common to try and get younger. Sanders isn’t the oldest when it comes to receivers in the league, but when you take into account his injuries from last season (a torn Achilles and tightrope surgery), it’s fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank despite his amazing efforts he has shown during the offseason and 2019 regular season.

What would Broncos get in return?

This is the million dollar question.

As Troy Renck suggests, the Denver Broncos should ask for a third-round pick for Sanders but receiving an offer including a team’s fourth-round pick seems more likely.

It all depends on what teams think Sanders is worth. They could argue that Sanders is on the decline because of his torn achilles and tightrope surgeries. That could certainly lower the price.

For Sanders to be dealt, it might come down to which team gives up the most for him.

What teams could be interested in Sanders?

The NFL is a passing league. Good wide receivers don’t grow on trees.

The teams that I can see going after Sanders are:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (Linked to them)
  • San Francisco 49ers (Another weapon for Jimmy Garoppolo)
  • Green Bay Packers  (Packers have suffered from WR injuries)
  • New Orleans Saints (A solid weapon across from Michael Thomas? Yes please)
  • New England Patriots (Don’t like it, but it’s such a Patriots move)
  • Buffalo Bills (Veteran weapon for a young quarterback)
  • Houston Texans (Will Fuller is banged up; nice addition to a team that already has DeAndre Hopkins)

There is a mix of veteran quarterbacks and young quarterbacks on the teams I suggested. Sanders would likely want to go where there is a solid starter in place.

Five of those six teams have been rumored to be interested in Sanders, and as Sayre Bedinger reminds us, here are the number of third-round picks those five teams (not including the Bills) have:

It would be devastating to see Sanders end up on a team such as the Patriots because of the rivalry that team has with pretty much every team in the NFL.

Notice the other four teams on the list are NFC teams, which would be ideal for the Denver Broncos because a team in the AFC will only play a team/division of the NFC every four years.
