Denver Broncos mock draft: Building around Drew Lock in 2020

The Denver Broncos have been stuck in mediocrity or worse since Peyton Manning retired. How can they use the 2020 NFL Draft to build around Drew Lock?

Joe Flacco is not the answer at quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

As much as we all love you, John Elway, he’s not in the prime years of his career. Those days are gone.

The Broncos are seemingly in need of a rebuild, something Elway has said there’s really no time for in the NFL, but their rebuild can be accelerated if Drew Lock develops quickly as the signal-caller in Rich Scangarello’s offense.

It’s difficult to just assume that’s going to happen since the Broncos have had (checks notes) no success developing quarterbacks they’ve drafted under John Elway besides seventh-rounder Trevor Siemian, whose 2016 season was more of the exception than the rule.

The Broncos’ hopes don’t necessarily hinge on Drew Lock, but they’re staring a stellar 2020 quarterback class in the face with some playmakers like Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, and a breakout couple of studs in LSU’s Joe Burrow and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts making waves lately.

If the Broncos are going to make an educated decision in the 2020 NFL Draft regarding quarterbacks, they need to see Lock play in 2019.

Let’s put our positive thinking caps on and say that Lock gets a chance to play this season, and not only that, but he plays well in the opportunity he’s given. That would give the Broncos four picks in the top 100 (with the extra pick in round three coming from Pittsburgh) and another pick somewhere within the top 120.
