Denver Broncos: Big stars in shutout win against Titans
The Broncos’ secondary
I wanted to make a single page for all of Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons, and Chris Harris, but I figured I would lump everything together here.
Very rarely does an NFL team go a game without giving up a touchdown. Even rarer is a defense going two games in a row without giving up an offensive touchdown.
The Broncos’ defense, led by the stellar secondary, took the first four games of the season personally, and they have responded in a dominating way.
Over the last two games, Denver’s defense has given up just nine points total, all to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers’ lone touchdown a week ago came on a punt return by Desmond King.
Kareem Jackson’s play has been strong all season, but as the Broncos are winning games, we’re seeing the difference he’s making amplified greatly.
Not only as a run defender but in coverage, Jackson has been an essential piece for Vic Fangio, finishing this game against the Titans with a beautiful tackle for loss on Derrick Henry and the game-sealing interception late.
Chris Harris also had a humongous interception late in the first half of the game, picking off Marcus Mariota as the Titans were attempting to cut the Broncos’ lead at least in half.
Harris was also nails on a Titans drive that nearly ended in a touchdown, breaking up a key third-down pass play inside the 10.
Justin Simmons had an interception which was caused by a great pass rush from the defensive front, his second interception of the season. Simmons now has at least two interceptions all four years of his NFL career.
Although Ryan Tannehill came in and inflated the Titans’ passing stats late in the game in essentially garbage time, the Denver secondary was lights out in this one and I can’t wait to watch the coaches film to see how players like Devontae Harris and Will Parks did.
