AJ Johnson, linebacker

Although Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio sort of tried to downplay Johnson’s tremendous game a week ago against the Los Angeles Chargers, there will be no containing him after another awesome performance, this time in a dominating effort against the Tennessee Titans.

The Broncos won a bidding war last offseason for Johnson, albeit a pretty moderate one, as he was dismissed from the Tennessee program in 2014 and hadn’t played any football since.

Well, he’s got his game legs underneath him, and after a year of development with the Broncos, Vic Fangio has himself a player at inside linebacker.

The numbers speak for themselves.

  • 9 total tackles (led team)
  • 2 QB hits
  • 1.5 sacks
  • 1 tackle for loss

What the stats don’t always show is the impact Johnson has also made in coverage. He doesn’t need to be racking up PBUs to have an impact in coverage, which he is.

This guy is absolutely flying around the field, proving himself more than capable as a three-down linebacker and essentially “Wally Pipp-ing” Josey Jewell the last two weeks.
