Shelby Harris, DE

The Broncos rightly tried to get their best three defensive linemen on the field with Shelby Harris playing the nose tackle position and Adam Gotsis playing defensive end opposite Derek Wolfe to start the season, but that experiment didn’t work out.

Harris playing inside left the Broncos too thin and vulnerable to power running teams, so they made the decision to kick Harris back out to the defensive end spot and it predictably worked.

Although Harris just turned 28, he’s really just coming into his own as a football player.

He has developed into a heck of a pass rusher and does a great job of getting his hand up to affect passing lanes. He’s also a stellar run defender at the defensive end position.

Because Harris is getting his first shot at being a ‘starter’ for the Broncos this year, it wouldn’t shock me to see both sides wait until after the year to talk extension, but he’s proven enough at this point that no one should be surprised if he ends up getting re-signed in-season.

So far in 2019, Harris doesn’t have any QB hits, and that needs to change sooner rather than later.
