The Broncos were able to secure their first win on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Alexander Johnson’s performance in the game was impressive.

Going into the Broncos week five matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, I was very concerned for the team since Josey Jewell was going to miss the game due to a hamstring injury. Going up against Melvin Gordon and Austin Eckler was not going to be an easy task. Thank goodness for Alexander Johnson for breathing some fresh air in the team’s linebacking corps.

One of the biggest surprises of the Denver Broncos week five win against the Chargers was first time starter Alexander Johnson. What he did for the Broncos defense was nothing short of spectacular.

He was able to record nine tackles and an interception. In fact, the interception kept the Chargers off the scoreboard for a bit longer. And it came right as the Broncos offense had turned the ball over.

According to Pro Football Focus, Alexander Johnson was the highest graded player out of all the Broncos with a 91.9 rating. It was also the highest mark any Broncos player had up to this point in the season.

Vic Fangio was so impressed by the linebacker that he gave him the game ball given to him by John Elway. That shows you a lot when a rookie head coach gives his first game ball for his first victory to another player.

Fangio mentioned on Monday that Alexander Johnson will start in the Broncos next game against the Tennessee Titans. And quite frankly, he deserves it. He showed during that game how much of an impact he can make in a football game.

If he is able to keep up this performance week in and week out, he could very well be the next diamond in the rough for the Denver Broncos defense. We shall see on Sunday afternoon.
