The Denver Broncos should be getting defensive back Kareem Jackson back against the Los Angeles Chargers in week five after he missed week four.

The Denver Broncos have not had the best luck with their top three free agent acquisitions in 2019 as far as injuries are concerned.

They lost cornerback Bryce Callahan during training camp when his foot was stepped on, aggravating an injury he had in Chicago that landed him on injured reserve in 2018.

They also lost right tackle Ja’Wuan James 10 snaps into the 2019 regular season with a knee injury against the Oakland Raiders.

Then, starting safety/nickel corner Kareem Jackson was injured in the week three loss to the Green Bay Packers, and wound up missing the Broncos’ game against Jacksonville.

After a week out and some limited practices this week, Jackson was a full participant in Friday’s practice for the Broncos and is officially considered ‘questionable’ for the game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but head coach Vic Fangio made it seem like he’s likelier to play than not.

Having Jackson back in the fold will be huge for the Broncos, especially with Duke Dawson’s nice debut in the slot last week against Jacksonville.

If Dawson can continue to play the nickel corner position, the Broncos can play Jackson at strong safety, where they envision him having the most significant impact in this Vic Fangio defense.

There have been plenty of moving parts so far this season for the Broncos’ secondary, but if they have Jackson back this week, their top five of Chris Harris Jr., De’Vante Bausby, Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons, and Duke Dawson is a pretty good top five overall.

It may not be what they drew up when the season started, but it’s a lot better than what they trotted out in weeks one and two when Isaac Yiadom was out there struggling before ultimately getting benched for Bausby.

If Jackson plays this weekend, it will allow the Broncos plenty of flexibility at the cornerback spots and they would likely match Chris Harris Jr. up with Keenan Allen wherever he moves on the field.
