Denver Broncos: 5 ideas to get the team on track in 2019

4. Take more deep shots

The Broncos have done well with the deep passing game this year, albeit in a limited sample size.

Joe Flacco has a fourth-lowest time to throw of any quarterback in the NFL this year.

There are a couple of reasons for that.

He’s facing pressure with the offensive line not consistently keeping him protected, but Flacco is also getting rid of the ball rather quickly, with 31 targets already going to the running backs and another eight targets going to underneath tight ends.

The Broncos have shown an ability to make explosive plays in the passing game, and this sort of goes hand-in-hand with the first suggestion on this list, but I would like to see more shots downfield with some of the weapons this team has.

And if the Broncos are going to stick with the idea that they have the personnel to gain YAC (yards after the catch) they will need to implement more rub routes and more routes going the opposite direction to free up space for the receivers.

Use play-action if you have to, but take shots downfield and get some of these guys opportunities to make plays. Flacco can still whip it downfield.
