2. Get Duke Dawson ready to play

The Broncos made a trade for Duke Dawson at the time of roster cuts, and while it’s apparent that playing in Vic Fangio’s defense requires a high level of communication and understanding of the scheme itself, the Broncos loved this kid coming out last year and felt he could be a fit going forward.

If the Broncos’ ideal combination involves Kareem Jackson at safety, it would be wise for this team to see if Dawson can be a solution in the nickel both now and into the future.

So far, Dawson has played just one defensive snap with the Broncos and a bunch of special teams snaps.

If he can prove himself capable of taking the nickel spot, the secondary could be better by way of guys moving back to where they were initially supposed to be anyway.

Dawson is physical inside at the nickel and if he can show the coaching staff something in that role, there could be a ripple effect and the back end of this defense could be better for it.
