The Denver Broncos obviously need to improve in many places, but one thing that is slowing them down is their third down efficiency.

A significant way to improve your chances of winning a game is to convert on third down and extend drives. The Denver Broncos have struggled in that part of their game this year through two games.

In Oakland, the Denver Broncos converted on 6-of-13 (46%) of their third downs. Against the Chicago Bears, they converted on just 3-of-11 (27%).

Some of the plays, the Broncos ran on third downs did not seem very smart. There were too many times where the pass plays ended up going to players who were short of the first down marker. I understand that you have to take what the defense gives you, but I think that the Denver Broncos should have been able to figure out ways to beat those coverages.

You just cannot succeed when you are throwing short of the first down marker all the time.

There were also times when Denver’s wideouts ran past the line of scrimmage but the offensive line did Joe Flacco no favors. He needs time to throw the football.

Last week, offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello said that he wanted to become a fearless play caller. That has yet to happen on third downs.

This team has a lot of speed on offense. Emmanuel Sanders has looked great so far after recovering from Achilles and ankle surgeries (on both feet). Courtland Sutton had a great 2019 debut.

It doesn’t take much to realize that the big problem is the offensive line. They need to give Flacco more time to throw. It would also be great if the Denver Broncos were able to find a way to get the run game going more efficiently.

It is basically a chain reaction. When something isn’t working properly, you have to try other tactics.

There is always a solution to fixing an offense. When a defense is giving you one thing, you need to find a way to attack it. The Broncos are not going to get anywhere if they have to keep punting the football.

It will likely be up to the Broncos offense to beat the Green Bay Packers this Sunday, unless Von Miller and Bradley Chubb are able to finally get some pressure going, this time against the future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
