Dalton Risner, LG

The Broncos’ top two picks in the 2019 NFL Draft — TE Noah Fant and LG Dalton Risner — are going to play huge roles in the offense over the course of the 2019 season.

Fant had a pretty rough debut outside of a couple of nice catches, but Risner was outstanding.

Although he primarily played right tackle at Kansas State, you would never know Risner was a rookie playing left guard as he showed technical prowess, strong anchor, great core strength, and a bit of his traditional nastiness out there for the Broncos.

Risner didn’t allow a single pressure in pass protection, and he was grinding out there in the run game as well.

On one particular play — the longest run of the game by the Broncos from Royce Freeman — Risner pulled from his left guard spot to the right side of the field and sealed off a lane for the second-year running back.

On another play in the first quarter, Risner blocked to the whistle, putting his man on the ground. On another pass protection rep, Risner caught his defender trying to spin back to the inside, and Risner just planted him in the ground.

We all kind of assumed Risner was just going to be steadily productive. He’ll probably have his rookie moments but I’m guessing they’ll be few and far between. He’s going to be a longtime starter in the NFL.
