DaeSean Hamilton, WR

While DaeSean Hamilton finished week one with only two catches for five yards, his little productivity was not the issue in the Monday night loss. It’s what he didn’t catch.

Trailing 14-3 in the third quarter, Joe Flacco delivered a perfect dime pass into the end zone to Hamilton. Broncos Country exhaled, hoping there was a chance after all. This jubilation quickly turned to frustration, as the world watched the ball fall right through Hamilton’s hands, forcing the Broncos to settle for a field goal.

Hamilton is not expected to be a top receiver for a while, falling behind the likes of Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton, but when called upon, Hamilton needs to be able to make that catch.

What could have been in week one if the Broncos scored on that drive will likely linger in the mind of Broncos Country for some time? Earlier in the game, Hamilton was able to haul in an improbable pass that was deflected off of the hands of Courtland Sutton, making something out of nothing. This made it even more frustrating that Hamilton was not incapable of hauling in such a perfectly thrown ball in such a critical moment.

Going forward, hopefully, Hamilton is able to respond when called upon in critical game-time scenarios.
