With the 2019 season underway, I chat with Matty Mulls and get his takes on the Denver Broncos as the Broncos Fanzone resumes for the 2019 season.

It is finally time for some real football. The Denver Broncos will not play until the final game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader. It is painful having to wait for so long before the Denver Broncos take the field. But hopefully, the wait will be well worth it.

The Broncos will first face off against the Oakland Raiders. Nothing like starting the new season with a rivalry game in the AFC West. In fact, this will be the second time in three years the Broncos start their season against an opponent from the AFC West.

Still have one more sleep to go until the first game of the 2019 season. It is getting to be a very exciting time for Broncos Country.

For at least one more season, I have decided to bring back the Denver Broncos Fanzone. This segment, I interview a Broncos fan and get their takes week by week. This week, I decided to chat with Matty Mulls, who writes for Predominantly Orange.

Let’s see what he has to say about the Denver Broncos.

What are your thoughts on the offseason for the Denver Broncos? Were there some moves your liked or made you scratch your head?

The Broncos followed up a strong rookie class in 2018 with what should be a very impactful group of first year guys in 2019. Dalton Risner is a future pro bowler at LG.

I’ve been very excited about the investment into the offensive line by Broncos leadership. Denver bringing in Mike Munchak as offensive line coach (while passing on him as head coach) was potentially the most impactful move by any team this offseason. We also made Ja’Wuan James the highest paid RT in NFL history.

Vic Fangio was my number one choice for Head Coach and I don’t really see a path to failure for him there. The Broncos defense will be better than the Bears were a season ago.

Initially, I scratched my head at bringing in Joe Flacco. I saw him as a washed up, very expensive quarterback. I’ve come around a bit but I’m cautiously optimistic there.

What are your thoughts on Joe Flacco and what he can bring to the table for Denver?

REAL leadership that the guys will actually buy into. Nothing against Keenum but I got the sense that they didn’t really believe that he was “that guy.” Von Miller has repeatedly referred to Joe as a “Super Bowl Champion and MVP.” That’s pretty cool to have one on each side of the ball.

Flacco should be a natural fit under center Rich Scangarello’s offense.

As a Denver Broncos fan, what is your favorite moment of all time?

Hands down has to be the “Helicopter Play” in Super Bowl XXXII against the Green Bay Packers. The Broncos were double-digit underdogs going into that game against multi-time NFL MVP Brett Favre. Leading up to and during the game, I was hopeful that we would get the win. When that play happened, I knew we would be hoisting that Lombardi Trophy.

The Broncos take on the Raiders on Monday Night Football. What will it take to get a win in the Black Hole?

Defensively: Pressure Derek Carr. Jam his receivers. Don’t lose sight of Jacobs out of the backfield.

Offensively: Protect the football. Protect the football. Protect the football. And hopefully we run that football about 30+ times here. I don’t want us having to throw the ball a ton. Test the Raiders deep with Sutton and Sanders on play action to keep the safeties honest. Be efficient and stay ahead of the chains.

Special Teams(?): Make your field goals. Have sound kick coverage. And PROTECT THE FOOTBALL!!!

Which Broncos player are you going to have your eye on for Monday?

Bradley Chubb. After hearing that he will be in the Khalil Mack role for this defense, I am STOKED to see him get after it! I think he gets three sacks (one a strip) in this game (Miller only gets one).

Thank You Matt for taking the time out to chat with me. Go Broncos!
