Broncos vs. Raiders (Part Two)

Ty Walden

Here we go. A circus of a week for the Oakland Raiders and they still have a football game to play. I was waiting to see what would happen with the Antonio Brown news. But it is now official that he will not play after being released by the team.

Does this help the Denver Broncos? Having a play maker off the opposing team will help, but since Brown hasn’t really practiced with the team, it’s hard to imagine how the team would prepare.

I am starting to think this could provide a distraction for the Oakland Raiders. The important part is that the Broncos can’t get it over their heads. Play smart football. Luckily, the team has Vic Fangio and he will not allow that.

I think a focused Broncos team will be enough to win against the Raiders.

The 2019-2020 season has kicked off, and what better way to start than a classic AFC West rivalry. The Broncos head to Oakland to take on Jon Gruden’s Raiders.

As I’m sure all you readers know, Antonio Brown has caused quite the ruckus over in Cali, and has ultimately been released. Down their #1 receiver, I like Denver’s odds in this one. With a top tier pass rush and a strengthened secondary, I think the Raiders aren’t going to be able to handle the Denver Defense.

A win on the road for Denver to start the season should set the Broncos up nicely given their week 2 and 3 opponents (CHI and GB). If the offense can protect the ball and play smart, I expect the Broncos to come home 1-0.

While the Broncos have a new look, with a new coaching staff in Fangio, Donatell and Scangarello, plus a new QB in Joe Flacco, I expect this team to hit the ground running quickly.

While the Raiders may look to attack the Broncos defense with new RB Josh Jacobs, the Broncos defense looks to shut him down and force the ball into Derek Carr’s hands with a banged up offensive line. If the pass rush can make Carr uncomfortable, I look for this to be a low scoring affair.

I expect both of these teams to be improved from their respective performances in 2018, but I expect the Broncos to kick off the season of honoring Pat Bowlen and taking that final victory in the Coliseum before the Raiders head to Vegas, especially considering all of the distraction surrounding the Raiders.
