3. The undrafted legacy lives on

Speaking of Malik Reed, he was the lone undrafted rookie to make the week one roster against Oakland (LB Josh Watson also made the team at final cuts, then was waived the next day), and he is the 23rd undrafted rookie to make the week one roster since 1997.

The Broncos have had at least one college free agent make the team out of training camp in 15 of the last 16 years.

In my humble opinion, Reed has a chance to be one of Elway’s best free agent pickups yet.

We saw Shaquil Barrett become a very valuable edge defender and special teams player, but based on what he did in preseason play and in college, it was almost something of a disappointment that he didn’t become an even better pass rusher than he was.

Reed played all over the defensive formation for Nevada, and was even listed by them at multiple positions at different times. He was a defensive end, outside linebacker, inside linebacker — pretty much everything.

I would say he’s got a bright future as an outside linebacker in the NFL.
