The Denver Broncos have decided to move on from one of their many running backs, releasing Khalfani Muhammad.

Running back Khalfani Muhammad’s odds of making the Denver Broncos 53-man roster have become 0.0%.

The Broncos have released Muhammad as part of their cut down to the 53-man roster limit, per Ryan O’Halloran.

Muhammad had looked flashy at times during the preseason. He recorded 146 rushing yards on 31 rushes, as well as one touchdown during the preseason.

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise, given all of the noise about the potential move of Devontae Booker, either through release of a trade. There are going to be more moves made by the Broncos to cut down to 53 players, so we will see what happens.

As of when the news broke of Khalfani’s release, the Broncos now have four running backs: Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, and Theo Riddick.

They released Dave Williams on Friday, as well as Devontae Jackson on Saturday.

It is expected that the Denver Broncos will try and stash Muhammad on their practice squad. That way, they would be able to call him up if someone gets hurt and the need arises.

The NFL is a rough business. Most players just never know when it will be their last shot at making an NFL roster. Despite having a solid preseason, it may not be enough. I think that was the case with Muhammad.

Hopefully, the Broncos stay healthy at the running back position. Phillip Lindsay was recovering from wrist surgery during the offseason (although, he is recovered now), and Theo Riddick will miss some time during the regular season because of a fracture in his shoulder.

Riddick is a candidate for short-term IR.

With plenty of cuts still yet to be made across the NFL, it is fair to wonder if the Broncos will still want to keep Muhammad on the practice squad (if he makes it there), or if they see another player they like via cuts from someone else.

Maybe the team will be able to add him to the practice squad and another free agent running back.

We shall see.
