The rest

I’m sure the Broncos did a lot more scouting than me, and they’ve been prepping for these possible waiver pickups for a while now, so there are likely a lot more than what I have on this list, but I wanted to throw a few names I like out there at positions the Broncos could either use help, depth, or maybe these guys just fit the ‘best player available’ category.

Malik Jefferson, LB (waivers)

Considered a better athlete than football player coming out of Texas last year, the Cincinnati Bengals picked Jefferson in the third-round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

That kind of high pick is going to get attention on the waiver wire simply because of his draft status, but he would be stepping into an interesting situation in Denver with the chance to contribute on special teams immediately and to work with a noted linebacker expert in Vic Fangio.

Luke Willson, TE (free agent)

Apparently, Luke Willson’s popularity increased this offseason when he appeared on HBO’s Hard Knocks, and he could be a help for the Denver Broncos, who are soon to be down a guy at the tight end position.

Willson plays in-line tight end, a little fullback, and special teams, so he could help in a variety of ways and is available to sign now.

The Broncos also play the Raiders week one, so that’s a plus.

Jachai Polite, EDGE (waivers)

The New York Jets took Polite in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Florida. They cut him after four preseason games, which speaks to what that team thinks of former GM Mike Maccagnan.

Polite maybe didn’t show overly well in the preseason, but my goodness, four preseason games is too soon to give up on a third-round pick. I’m sure plenty of teams will be interested to see if they can extract his potential.

The Broncos have four edge guys, and currently don’t need more, but Polite would be a nice luxury.

Britton Colquitt, P (free agent)

The Broncos won a Super Bowl with Britton Colquitt as their punter. He was inconsistent in Denver but he’s been good for the Browns and could be a viable option to replace Colby Wadman.

Stefen Wisniewski, OL (free agent)

Wisniewski is a veteran interior lineman who would be a lot better than the Broncos’ current alternative if one of Connor McGovern or Ron Leary were to miss time.

He’s been a valuable reserve for the Philadelphia Eagles in recent years.

Dakota Allen, LB (waivers)

Formerly of the great Netflix series Last Chance U, Dakota Allen was let go by the LA Rams after a stellar preseason.

He racked up 16 total tackles, 12 stops in the run game, and was solid in coverage for the Rams. The Broncos got an up-close look at him in their head-to-head matchup, so perhaps we’ll see him come over to Denver and get a shot.

He was a seventh-round pick this year.

Keelan Doss, WR (waivers)

The Broncos need a receiver who can return punts or kicks for them, but maybe there’s someone else out there who can do that.

Doss was a preseason star for the Raiders and much of Raider Nation was upset to see him get cut.

I would try to claim him off of waivers to stick it to a division rival for cutting someone they maybe shouldn’t have. He had 17 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown in preseason play.

Roster surprises for the Broncos so far. dark. Next

Keith Smith, FB (free agent)

If the Broncos feel like Andy Janovich is going to need some time and they want to replace him with a proven traditional fullback, the Oakland Raiders cut Keith Smith who was a really good fullback for them last year and the Cowboys before that.
