Jake Butt (IR candidate)

Cuts: Moral Stephens, Orson Charles

Jake Butt is expected to be out for a month, maybe more after a recent knee procedure. I think the Broncos can afford to be flexible with his position but right now I feel like they’re going to carry him on the initial roster and IR him after that.

We’re at the point, though, where the Broncos can’t bend over backwards to try to make things work. They are obviously rooting for Butt, and Butt is working hard, but roster spots are precious. It wouldn’t shock me if he is placed on season-ending IR.

If he’s on the 53 first, it would give them the opportunity to bring back a player like Orson Charles, who could contribute at TE, FB, and on special teams.

Butt could then be re-evaluated in a couple of months.

I don’t know if we saw enough from Moral Stephens to think he could be a practice squad player.
