Running Back/Fullback

Phillip Lindsay
Royce Freeman
Khalfani Muhammad
Theo Riddick (IR candidate)
Andy Janovich (FB — IR candidate)

Cuts: Devontae Booker, Devontae Jackson, David Williams, George Aston (FB)

Things start to get really tricky right here.

The Broncos have a few locks here, but a couple of spots up for debate.

The team signing Theo Riddick sort of put the writing on the wall for Devontae Booker. The injury to Theo Riddick also seemed to essentially re-guarantee Booker his roster spot, but the emergence of Khalfani Muhammad and the likelihood he would be picked up by another team complicate things.

I think the Broncos benefit more from having Muhammad, a good receiver who has more speed and home run abilities offensively than Booker as well as better kick return abilities.

Booker has one year of team control while Muhammad is under contract for two years, then an exclusive rights free agent, then a restricted free agent.

The contract factor and Muhammad’s speed give him an edge over Booker, in my eyes. The Broncos could even look to trade Booker to a team needing a RB2 or something.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see George Aston stashed on the practice squad in case the Broncos want to call him up to fill in for Janovich at some point, but I’m not sure they can justify keeping two FBs on the initial roster.

Riddick has to be on the initial roster to be placed on IR with a chance of returning in 2019.
