Denver Broncos: 3 biggest moves from Friday’s intense action
3. Wide receiver Brendan Langley cut
For the second straight year and at a different position, the Denver Broncos cut former third-round pick Brendan Langley.
A former wide receiver recruit at Georgia, Langley ended up playing his most substantial snaps in college at Lamar University, where he showed potential as a defensive back.
His potential at defensive back got him into the Senior Bowl in 2017 and drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round.
It won’t go down as one of John Elway’s best picks, but Langley is such a talented athlete that he got legitimate looks in the NFL at both defensive back and wide receiver.
The idea to make a permanent switch to wide receiver came after Langley took snaps with the scout team last year at wide receiver and was apparently giving the defense problems.
It’s always a shame to see a high draft choice cut. The Broncos brought back Langley last year on the practice squad, but it remains to be seen if he showed enough as a receiver to warrant that kind of extra attention this year.
It’s likely we’ve reached the end of the road for Langley and the Broncos.
The 2017 NFL Draft class for the Broncos will go down as one of John Elway’s worst, though the jury is still out on their top two picks, Garett Bolles and DeMarcus Walker. In addition to Bolles and Walker, only Jake Butt is still on the roster from the 2017 draft class.
