Diontae Spencer, WR/PR, Pittsburgh Steelers

I’ve been watching the preseason punt return stats this year like a hawk.

It’s not enough that the Broncos just catch punts. They need someone who can help them turn punt returns into a plus play, and Diontae Spencer just might be a solution.

Despite trading away Antonio Brown, the Steelers are not hurting at the wide receiver position. Spencer has played well for them in the preseason with runs of 19 and 29 yards as well as two punt returns of 30-plus yards and a 35-yard kickoff return.

He’s shown his value on special teams as well as on offense, and now the Steelers have the tough decision to make of whether to cut him and hope he can make it to the practice squad or trade him while his value is moderately high.

The 5-foot-8 receiver out of McNeese State is 27 but has been balling out in the CFL the past few years as an all-purpose threat on offense and in the return game.

At his pro day back in 2014, he ran a blazing 4.34 in the 40-yard dash and had a 40-inch vertical jump.

He would be the ideal WR6 for the Broncos right now.
