Denver Broncos: Trade ideas as we approach roster cut day
Ike Boettger, IOL, Buffalo Bills
Had Ike Boettger been healthy when he left the Iowa Hawkeyes program, I definitely felt like he was a draftable player coming out.
Injuries sort of plagued his Iowa career, but he was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection in 2016 and was the team’s starting right tackle to open things up in 2017 before he hurt himself in the second game of the season.
There was enough from Boettger in the years prior to think he could play at the NFL level, but his injuries justifiably put him outside of the draft.
The Bills cut him last September and tried to put him on the practice squad right away, but he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was only in KC for nine days before they cut him and the Bills claimed him off of waivers.
This is clearly a player the Bills are not trying to get rid of but he’s had a heck of a preseason playing all three spots on the interior offensive line for Buffalo.
Interestingly enough, he’s played a number of snaps at the center position.
Maybe the Bills are planning on him being their top utility guy on the interior offensive line, or perhaps they’re showcasing him at a number of positions to other teams.
