Denver Broncos: Who made the best case for the roster vs. Cardinals?
Defensive Back
This is really going to be mostly a look at safety, because I don’t know that anyone who played in this game is making the roster at cornerback.
Seriously.
Trey Marshall
There were some rumblings before and during the game that Marshall was the odds-on favorite to be the fourth safety on the roster, or at the very least the fifth.
He did not disappoint, finishing with two tackles, a pass breakup, a nice play on special teams, and a fumble recovery.
Su’a Cravens
The former top prospect out of USC who contemplated retiring from football before getting traded to the Broncos started and played pretty much this whole game for the Broncos.
He started off poorly, missing a tackle in space, but made up for it later on by meeting a receiver with the ball and just ripping the ball out of his hands, taking it for his own.
Cravens finished with two tackes, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Was it enough to make the 53? I would be much more comfortable saying yes if Cravens hadn’t tweeted this out earlier on Thursday.
Shamarko Thomas
The aggressive, hard-hitting, special teams ace hurt his hamstring in this game and didn’t come back.
That’s not a good sign for a guy fighting for a roster spot, but if Thomas is okay, he stands a decent chance of making the roster based on his special teams prowess.
BONUS: Punter
Colby Wadman had a really good game after a poor performance against the Rams.
Wadman is still far too inconsistent for my liking, but perhaps I’m not patient enough. He will probably have a short leash going into the regular season and I’m sure the Broncos will keep their eyes peeled for possible upgrades or competition.
