Wide receiver

There were three guys who stood out at wide receiver besides Juwann Winfree, who is undoubtedly making the team as the WR5.

The biggest question now becomes — who is WR6? Will anyone be WR6?

The Broncos are under no obligation to keep six wide receivers, and the formula here is kind of a tough one to predict.

The guy who made the best plays at receiver, the guy who catches the punts the best, and the guy who returns punts the best are all different guys.

I don’t think anything is really settled here and the Broncos could be in the market for an upgrade at WR who can also return punts.

Fred Brown

Brown has continually made plays and has also continually gotten opportunities throughout camp to play with the number one offense.

He was the best receiver in this game for Denver, catching all five of his targets for 66 yards and this beauty of a touchdown grab.

Side note: That was also probably Hogan’s best throw of the game.

River Cracraft

River Cracraft has been around the longest. He recently got talked up by head coach Vic Fangio. He also probably catches punts the best of anyone who has been competing at that spot.

Cracraft also had six catches for 41 yards in this game but looked like he was playing it way too safe on punt returns, calling for a fair catch on his first two opportunities.

Sometimes playing not to lose can get you burned.

Kelvin McKnight

I don’t know that McKnight is ready for the 53-man roster, but he had the best returns of the night in the punting game.

He had a long of 17 yards and Cracraft had a long of 15.

He seems like the ideal practice squad candidate.

BONUS: Tight End

There were no movers and shakers here in this game. The Broncos are either going to go into the season with Noah Fant, Jeff Heuerman, Troy Fumagalli, and Jake Butt, or Butt is going to go on IR after another knee procedure will keep him out at least a month.
