The Denver Broncos need some help at the linebacker position. Could former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith be a depth piece for them?

The Denver Broncos have a Super Bowl MVP in Von Miller leading their defense.

They have a Super Bowl MVP in Joe Flacco leading their offense.

They have a former Super Bowl MVP running the team in John Elway.

How’s about another Super Bowl MVP? The San Francisco 49ers have released linebacker Malcolm Smith, a former Super Bowl MVP for the Seattle Seahawks. I can’t seem to remember which Super Bowl that was, but it is a fact I know about Malcolm Smith.

Wow, the Broncos need experience at linebacker. The Broncos need depth at linebacker.

I am not sure Smith is the right fit, but being able to say the roster has three Super Bowl MVPs on it would be really cool and something no one could argue with, like, at all.

The Broncos truly do need depth at the linebacker position, and with Smith having some injury issues in his first two years with the 49ers after a solid couple of seasons in Oakland, he could probably be had on the cheap at this point.

Although he’s 30 and has been a starter in the NFL, Smith has experience on special teams and could perhaps help the Broncos in that regard as well. The special teams — in particular, the coverage units — have been borderline miserable for a couple years in Denver and don’t appear any better this year.

The Broncos will be scouring the waiver wire for possible solutions at linebacker with Todd Davis and Joe Jones dealing with injuries.

Smith is available right now, and the Broncos obviously wouldn’t have to wait for the waiver process and the chance that other teams might claim someone they want if they want to sign Smith.

The main reason the Broncos would not act quickly to sign a guy like Smith? Well, if they sign him now, and someone they want does become available in the next few days, it’s a waste of precious finances.

The only way this is going to work is if the Broncos feel like Smith is the guy they want and the right fit for this season, they can get him in the program right away.

Next. Who can earn roster spots vs. Arizona?. dark

And they would have three Super Bowl MVPs.
