Defensive Back

Cornerback: Linden Stephens, Horace Richardson

Right now, if I had to bet, I would say the Broncos use the fifth cornerback spot as one of their highly optional positions.

Kareem Jackson can play cornerback. Will Parks can play nickel. The Broncos have options and unfortunately, the only corners we’ve really even got glimpses from are Linden Stephens and Horace Richardson.

Have either done enough to make a final 53-man roster? I’m not so sure about that.

Richardson has only played two of the team’s four games so far, and he’s probably done the best of the reserve corners but the sample size is obviously smaller. He has allowed three catches for -1 yards in balls thrown to his coverage.

Stephens, on the other hand, has allowed nine receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Safety: Shamarko Thomas, Dymonte Thomas, Trey Marshall

Shamarko Thomas has experience and can play special teams. Dymonte Thomas and Trey Marshall were both solid undrafted finds by the front office.

Will the Broncos keep a fifth safety? I think that’s a safe assumption at this point.

We know Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, Will Parks, and Su’a Cravens are making the team barring something unforeseen. That makes eight ‘locks’ for the roster at the defensive back positions.

Most teams keep nine, sometimes 10 defensive backs depending on the quality of their depth. Based on the fact that the Broncos have so much versatility from their top eight guys, it stands to reason they don’t need to keep more than they need, but NFL roster construction is a numbers game and you need guys to play special teams as well.

Next. How many players will the Broncos keep at each position?. dark

May the best special teams player win.
