Denver Broncos: Who can earn roster spots against the Cardinals?
Defensive Line
Mike Purcell vs. DeShawn Williams
The Denver Broncos made the surprising decision to release veteran defensive tackle Zach Kerr.
Financially, it saved the team quite a bit of cash compared to what they had previously, but we break down that move entirely here.
The fallout of releasing Kerr means the Broncos have a sixth spot on the defensive line up for grabs. Who is going to take it? Two players Vic Fangio singled out as standing out on the defensive line are Mike Purcell and DeShawn Williams.
Both players are pretty fun stories.
Purcell was with Fangio back in his San Francisco days. He’s a native of Colorado and has been unreal the last couple of games in the preseason. He saw some action with the Salt Lake Stallions of the AAF this past Spring.
Williams was a reserve/futures player for the Broncos last year, and he played well enough in the preseason to win a roster spot. He just missed the cut. He’s done the same for the Broncos this offseason, it appears, and he would obviously like to stick. He said last season when he was released, he questioned whether or not he belonged.
It’s telling that this new coaching staff would bring him back in.
Watching these two get after it on Thursday night will be a ton of fun.
