Top free agents available

Manti Te’o (age 28)

The veteran Manti Te’o has not always been able to stay healthy, but he’s been a pretty steady option when he’s on the field over the past three years.

Last year with the Saints, he was a healthy scratch in a number of games, which is not an ideal sign, but he also was given high marks by Pro Football Focus when he did suit up.

Te’o is capable of being a strong run defender and an underrated aspect of his game has become his coverage abilities. He’s not allowed a single touchdown in his last three seasons, and has only allowed one touchdown since 2015.

Mason Foster (age 30)

Recently let go by the Washington Redskins, Mason Foster has been racking up tackles since he came into the NFL in 2011.

He had 131 tackles this past season for the Redskins, and is considered one of the top veteran options available.

With that said, Foster took a step back last year in coverage and surrendered 426 yards after the catch despite picking off a pair of passes.

Because of his recent work in coverage, he may not be the strongest option there, but Foster is a very good run defender and didn’t let a lot get past him.

Other free agent possibilities:

  • Josh Bynes (Arizona Cardinals)
  • Corey Nelson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers
