Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders makes his return to the playing field for the Denver Broncos tonight vs the San Francisco 49ers. What should we expect?

It has been a little over eight months since we last saw Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders on the football field for a matchup against another team.

Sanders has been recovering from a torn Achilles’ tendon he suffered during a mid-December practice. He also reportedly had tightrope surgery on the ankle on his other foot.

Sanders will make his return to live football action in Monday night’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. He has been working his way back and really looked to not even be missing a beat during training camp.

So what can we expect in Sanders’ return to the field?

Well, first we have to see how much he and the other offensive starters actually play. Starters usually get the extent of the snaps during the third preseason game. Despite this being the Broncos’ third preseason game, it’s only the second one for 30 other teams in the league, so we may not see a lot of Sanders quite yet.

Sanders isn’t sure how much he will play, but had a guess:

I am very interested to see how Sanders does going full speed. Along with making cuts on the football field, that is the true test to see if a player is ready to return on a full-time basis. With limited preseason snaps, it is not a great sample size.  However, it may be that the Broncos see enough of Sanders on Monday night and next week’s game to say that he is ready to go.

It will be great to finally see the Joe Flacco-Emmanuel Sanders connection in a live game. With Flacco being the team’s newest starting quarterback (and yet another one for Sanders), timing is everything. A problem they could face is getting the timing down on a throw and catch.

Not to mention that they will both be in a new offense. Sanders has been around a long time so that doesn’t seem like it should be an issue, but getting on the same page as your teammates isn’t always easy.

Sanders is definitely the player I want to see the most of due to this being his first game action since December of 2018.
