John Lynch, 49ers general manager

John Lynch was only a member of the Denver Broncos from 2004-07, but he made a significant impact in that short amount of time.

Lynch was a Pro Bowler every year he was with the Broncos and in his 15 NFL seasons, he did the unthinkable — he made the jersey number 47 look cool.

Lynch will always be synonymous with the number 47 for us 90s kids, but for many younger NFL fans, Lynch is the former NFL player/analyst on FOX turned executive of one of the most historic franchises in sports.

Aside from playing for the Denver Broncos and having the number ‘7’ in his jersey, Lynch shares quite a bit in common with John Elway. Just like Elway, Lynch was a two sport athlete at Stanford, playing baseball and football. Both Elway and Lynch were drafted to pro baseball and pro football, and both have gone from being players in the league to being executives in the league.

Lynch spoke at Broncos camp about his admiration for Elway.

"“John was a tremendous resource (when Lynch became an NFL executive). He’s a good friend and we’ve got a lot of parallels from where we went to school, two-sport players, and I used to try to walk pigeon-toed so I’d be more like him and all of those things. Now to call him a friend, I think the little bit of time in an offseason when he had me come in here was very integral in my motivation to do this and saying, ‘Hey, this might be something that someday I’d like to do.’ He’s been a tremendous resource. I have great respect and admiration for him and everything he’s done.” John Lynch (quotes via Broncos PR)"

Lynch also thinks the Broncos have a good-looking roster this year.

"“They’ve got a nice roster, so I think there’s reason to be excited. I think Vic’s doing a tremendous job of running a tough camp. They’ve got some players on that roster and I think it’s going to be a good football team, I really do.”"

You just love to see it.
