Denver Broncos legends John Elway and Mike Shanahan along with Ring of Famer John Lynch (and others) spoke at joint practices.

The Denver Broncos hosted the San Francisco 49ers for joint practices (and will host them on Monday night for a game), and little did anyone know the intrasquad work would turn out to be a who’s who of Mile High Football Legends.

We’re talking the best of the best.

Some of the characters involved were just in their regular day-to-day routine. Broncos general manager John Elway is a living legend for the team, the man responsible for leading the team to three Super Bowls, one as an executive and, of course, two as a player.

Elway’s Broncos played host once again to Broncos coaching legend and future Ring of Famer Mike Shanahan, the architect behind the team’s two Super Bowls in the late 90s, as well as Shanahan’s son Kyle, who should be the Broncos’ head coach.

We won’t get into that now.

Kyle is employed by the San Francisco 49ers, and his boss there is John Lynch, one of the best safeties to ever play the game and a Denver Broncos Ring of Famer at that.

The team hosted a number of other legends over the weekend including The Sheriff himself, Peyton Manning.

Imagine trying to be one of these players and practice while Peyton Manning, John Elway, Mike Shanahan, and John Lynch are watching you. Tim Patrick apparently didn’t feel the pressure.

The joint practices between the Broncos and 49ers in their current alignments are fascinating. That catch by Tim Patrick is all the more fascinating when you consider that he was a member of the 49ers the last time these two teams had joint practices (2017), which was the first year Lynch and Shanahan were the team’s brain trust.

In this post, you’re going to read some very fascinating stuff, including:

  • Mike Shanahan confirming he was almost the team’s head coach (again) in 2018
  • John Elway on his rookies and consulting Shanahan about hiring Rich Scangarello
  • John Lynch talking about how much he looks up to Elway

We’ll also sprinkle in some fun pictures the Broncos posted throughout.
