Depth chart updates

Offense

For the Broncos’ starting offense, fullback Andy Janovich (pectoral), tight end Jeff Heuerman (shoulder), and right guard Ron Leary (knee) were not present in this game.

In their place were Troy Fumagalli (tight end playing fullback) along with George Aston, Noah Fant, and Austin Schlottmann respectively.

Fumagalli didn’t play a ton of traditional fullback for the Broncos but they obviously wanted to get him some reps there in case they can’t afford to keep a second fullback on the active roster heading into the regular season.

Schlottmann has seemingly developed into a regular season roster possibility as a versatile interior guy. He has played center, left guard, and right guard so far in preseason play, and his most extensive work has come at RG and C.

At quarterback, it was Joe Flacco then Drew Lock for the Broncos. Lock was followed by Kevin Hogan and only Hogan. Brett Rypien didn’t play for a second consecutive game.

Defense

The Broncos’ defense was missing a number of guys and rotating a bunch of others. Here are the players who were out and who the Broncos replaced them with to start the game.

  • CB Bryce Callahan –> Isaac Yiadom
  • SS Kareem Jackson –> Will Parks –> Su’a Cravens –> Trey Marshall
  • LB Todd Davis –> Alexander Johnson

When the Broncos went to their nickel defense, rookie Justin Hollins was on the field as a second linebacker and De’Vante Bausby came in as an outside corner.

It will be interesting to see if the Broncos keep just nine defensive backs and whether or not Trey Marshall is one of them. Dymonte Thomas hasn’t stood out like he has in the past couple of seasons.
