Denver Broncos: Undrafted players with the best shot at making the team
Josh Watson, linebacker
The Broncos have had plenty of injuries to deal with this offseason, but perhaps no position has been hit harder than what is potentially the weakest position on the roster, inside linebacker.
Todd Davis was the first to go through an injury here, and has been out since the first day of training camp. Josey Jewell suffered a minor injury keeping him out of practices and Joe Jones hurt his tricep, keeping him out 6-8 weeks.
For those keeping score at home, those are the Broncos’ top three inside linebackers.
One player getting plenty of reps with the top defense in the absence of the others is undrafted rookie Josh Watson, a very talented athlete out of Colorado State who fell out of the draft for whatever combination of reasons.
Watson has impressed Fangio and the staff but obviously needs to show more consistency. He’s also stuck in a tough battle right now as the Broncos expect all of the aforementioned players except Joe Jones to be healthy by opening day against the Raiders.
Is Watson worth keeping a fifth linebacker? Will the recent move of Jamal Carter to ILB push Watson to the practice squad?
