Alijah Holder, cornerback

One of the most underrated roster battles right now in Denver? The fifth cornerback spot. As a matter of fact, I’m toying with the notion that this team’s fifth corner will be on the practice squad because no one has been consistent enough in game action or practice action yet to really lay claim to the CB5 spot.

One player who has plenty of upside and has worked in a similar defense to the one the Broncos are operating in is Alijah Holder, one of the team’s top undrafted players this year out of Stanford.

Holder has length and ball skills but lacks for elite athleticism compared to other players at his position and injuries helped push him out of the draft completely.

I don’t know that the Broncos would throw Holder out into regular season action right now, and if they put him on the roster, he would have to show that he’s at least close to that level of play.

He’s got a shot, though, as a high-bonus player in the UDFA pool. The Broncos’ backups in the secondary have been torched in two preseason games but Holder definitely has upside. The team also recently picked up Rashard Causey, a defensive back out of UCF who could make a case for the roster after spending the offseason with the Atlanta Falcons.
